Meet your local female fitness trainer Kate

Hello, I’m Kate Mackie!

I’m a personal trainer who is passionate about bringing exercise and fitness into my clients’ lives, no matter who they are. I believe that optimum health should be accessible to all, and that we should have fun while we’re at it!

I have been in the fitness industry for 18 years, and have enjoyed every single minute of it. Being a professional personal trainer has allowed me to meet people from all walks of life, but most importantly, I’ve had the honour of walking them through their fitness journey too.

There are so many different approaches to fitness, and it’s my goal in life to try them all! My versatility is apparent in the way I approach exercise - I run, lift weights, do cardio, and basically take every chance to work on my fitness. This is the same approach I take in my personal training career as well. I can teach a variety of programs, including HIIT, Resistance, Cardio, Yoga and Boxing.

I can also create specialised fitness and nutrition plans. These plans are tailor made for each client, which ensures they are getting the most out of their diet and exercise. I firmly believe that a proper strategy is the key to success in fitness! Everyone deserves a personalised approach to their health and well-being, and having a tailor-made fitness and meal plan is a big part of that.

We love our community.

Decades of athletic experience

My love for fitness started out when I was a young girl when I started off doing calisthenics at age 5. Not long after that, I participated in my first running event, which led me to keep running ever since!

I’ve competed in many athletic events in my life, and have even made it into the top 10 to compete for my state. So from a very young age, I recognised that I have a talent for fitness and exercise, and I knew that I wanted to share this with others and help them achieve their fitness goals as well.

In 2006, I became an Athletics coach. I spent 9 years in that position, helping people achieve peak physical form for their athletic competitions. In 2012, I received my qualifications as a personal trainer and spent a few years being an assistant trainer.

It wasn’t till 2015 that I decided to start up my first business! I also made the decision to go back to school to earn my Diploma in Sports Development, which was an incredibly challenging and rewarding experience. I went on to get my Level 1 run coach certification, a culmination of many decades in competitive running.

I have competed in many running events throughout Melbourne and Sydney. I’ve also competed in 2 Triathlons.

Since moving to Brunswick I knew I wanted to set up my own Group Outdoor Fitness business and that is when Run It by Kate came to be.

Run It by Kate was created to encourage, motivate, and inspire people to live a healthier and balanced lifestyle. Run It by Kate is my passion, and it’s been an absolute honour to run and own the best successful Group Outdoor Fitness business in Carlton North.

I moved to Melbourne at the start of 2021 at the age of 49. A funny time of life to start again in a new city and I was looking for social connection and an exercise group and RIBK ticked both boxes and more.

What I love about RIBK is that it is a friendly, supportive and non-threatening environment to exercise in.

The trainers are all knowledgeable, skilled and attentive, managing to achieve great group cohesion at the same time as being responsive to individual needs and goals. They are willing to listen and share their knowledge to help support all of our health and exercise goals. The passion and enthusiasm of the trainers is contagious.”

Kade - Personal Trainer

Sport and exercise have always been an important part of my life. As a 6yr old, I first discovered soccer and fell instantly in love. I then also picked up hockey (field and indoor), and basketball. In high school, I tried my hand at orienteering and cycling (road and track), competing at a national level in both. I had a scholarship to the ACT Academy of Sport for road cycling, and was part of the National Talent Identification and Development program through Cycling Australia. I won a number of titles, including the Australasian Schools Time Trial Champion. Unfortunately, injury (a broken back and heart surgery) cut my cycling career short. After recovery and rehabilitation, I realised my passion lay more in coaching than competing, and I decided to become a Personal Trainer.

I completed my Cert. III and IV in fitness in 2013, and alongside university commitments, I have worked in outdoor group fitness since then. I have also completed university subjects in sports coaching, strength and conditioning, and sports psychology, as well as additional training in punchfit and powerflex. I was also lucky enough to discover Triathlon in 2014 and found the half ironman distance (1.9km swim, 90km cycle, 21.1km run) to be my ‘sweet spot’. I have competed in a number of triathlons; the highlight being selected to represent Australia in the 2017 Half Ironman World Championships in the USA. I am a postgraduate neuroscience research student and am passionate about the benefits of exercise in not only general health and well-being, but also how essential regular exercise is for mental health. While I have been lucky enough to compete at the elite level, I believe maintaining an exercise regime regardless of your fitness levels, promotes not only a healthy body but also a healthy mind.

Armando - Personal trainer

Armando is an energetic and passionate personal trainer.

Growing up in the 80s in Italy Armando enjoyed his active life, often playing footy late into the night until his Mum called for him to come home. He like many other teens went through a party phase, under the influence of drugs and alcohol and becoming physically and mentally unwell.

When Armando moved to Australia he began running a restaurant, in what was meant to be his calling with a secure job that paid well. However, the catch was he would not be able to spend as much time with his family. During COVID Armando decided to become a personal trainer so he could be with his wife and children more, to live a better and happy life. He is 20kg lighter and embraces life to the full by taking himself out of his comfort zone. When he left his secure job, he did so not knowing where he would be next. However, he knew that doing such a thing would be more valuable.

Armando believes that helping people achieve their fitness goals is a great feeling and would not trade that for anything else. He encourages his clients to give value to their time. So don’t sell yourself for cheap and take steps to improve your life so you can live longer too. At the end of the day, we all end up in the same place with no more time to give. So embrace what you have now and don’t take it for granted.
